The Austrian Carbohydrate community consists of scientists from all areas of the glycosciences ranging from synthetic glycochemistry, glycoconjugates, glycobiology, glycan analysis, carbohydrate-based materials, and the technology of carbohydrate-based systems.
Our member labs are affiliated with almost all Austrian universities and together with our collaborative network, we are aiming to further push the boundaries in this challenging but important and ever-emerging interdisciplinary field. Our representative in the international and European carbohydrate Societies is Prof. Tanja Wrodnigg who has taken over recently from Prof. Paul Kosma who has served in these functions for many years. We also see our community as a facilitator to stay connected with other contries’ glyco-communities and societies.
Our main event is the traditional yearly reunion which has been held since the 1990s and has continuously grown to nowadays attract close to 100 scientists from Austria and nearby countries including esteemed invited international speakers. These encounters which have so far alternated in location between Vienna and Graz it is in particular the younger colleagues like PhDs and young PostDocs who get a stage to present (very often as premieres) their research in a friendly but professional conference setting. This year’s meeting has been held at TU Wien, in 2022 we will reconvene at TU Graz, looking forward to seeing many of you there.
We are happy to welcome new labs venturing into the sugar realm and also invite individuals of all stages interested in the glycosciences to stay in contact by receiving our news via email (newsletter) and/or directly follow our activities via Twitter.
